That is, it’s worn down or worn in a bad state of repair.
And this is what the researchers found.
The study by researchers at the University of Oxford looked at the online shopping habits of 1,000 US women who had been shopping online for 20 years.
It found that the average number of items a woman would return to her collection was two-thirds of that she would spend.
In other words, if a woman spent 10 per cent of her shopping money on new jewellers and accessories in the same period, she would be back to just 2 per cent.
The researchers also looked at a similar sample of women with a more traditional collection, who spent less money on jewellery, but still returned to a lot of old items.
But even the women with the more traditional collections, who bought more expensive jewellery and accessories, were only half as likely to return to a good-enough collection as those with the less traditional collections.
The research suggests that the more people spend on jewellering, the less likely they are to keep returning to old items, even after they are worn out.
The takeaway message for shoppers is to buy as many new jewelled items as possible and to shop carefully.
The more expensive the jewellery the better.
